YOGA TECHNIQUES - 75 HOURS

​

  • The practice will consist of primarily vinyasa flow and you can also expect practices such as Ashtanga, yin yoga, partner yoga, yin yang flows and yoga nidra. 

  • Asana Techniques and Alignment

  • Pranayama , Meditation, Mudra & Mantra

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY - 30 HOURS (24 HOURS ONLINE MODULE + 6 Q&A LIVE SESSIONS)

ONLINE MODULE WITH WORLD-RENOWNED EDUCATOR, ANDREE McGONIGLE

  • Fundamentals of Functional Anatomy, Physiology & Yoga Biomechanics

  • Adjustments for standing postures, floor poses, basic inversions and backbends, including enhancements and use of props.

  • Subtle Anatomy including the chakra system, nadis, koshas, prana vayus and bandhas.

  • Modifications and variations of poses

 

PHILOSOPHY, ETHICS & LIFESTYLE - 30 HOURS

 

  • Yoga Philosophy; Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and a special focus on the Yamas and Niyamas

  • History of Yoga, Roots of vinyasa and modern yoga

  • The teachings of the Bhagavad Gita

  • Soulful Theming applying ancient wisdom in modern times

  • Intro into Ayurveda and the gunas

  • Lifestyle & Ethics for Yoga Teachers

  • The Business of Yoga

  • Using Social Media to Boost your Success as a Yoga Teacher

PROFESSIONAL ESSENTIALS-  40 HOURS

 

  • Teaching Methodology

  • Cueing movement & pace of class with effective communication

  • Sequencing for group and private classes (multi level classes)

  • How to sequence and teach Vinyasa Flow Classes (Vinyasa Krama, Thread, Peak, Set Sequence, Mandala)

  • How to intelligently design classes for different needs in multi level classes (group & private classes)

  • Demonstration, observation, assisting tools for teaching

  • How to deliberately provide hands-on assist. 

  • Making yoga inclusive 

  • Professional development

PRACTICUM - 20 HOURS

 

  • Observing Classes

  • Receiving and giving feedback

  • Gaining confidence through completing assignments and giving presentations 

  • Skillful and Balanced Sequencing

  • Teaching one-to-ones and group classes

  • Ongoing teaching practice

  • Assisting in live classes

ELECTIVES - 5 HOURS

​

  • These topics are drawn from the previous 5 categories, based on this program’s emphasis.

The weekends of training will consist of an intensive program covering a broad range of fascinating subjects aimed at deepening your understanding of the vastness and richness of all that is yoga.

What to expect:

​

  • Deepening your practice of asana, pranayama and meditation by increasing your understanding and awareness.

  • Embodying yoga through an understanding of yoga philosophy

  • How to recognise different morphology and adapt to suit your students' needs

  • How to sequence classes coherently and make them suitable for beginners and intermediate students

  • Designing classes including thread, krama vinyasa, mandala and alignment-based sequences.

  • Teaching with clear verbal instruction, demonstration and hands-on-adjustments.

  • How to provide modifications (regressions and progressions) taking into consideration practitioners needs and/or requirements.

  • How to teach yoga in a functional and safe way by understanding alignment principles,  physiology, biomechanics and skeletal differences.

  • The role of the bodily systems (nervous, cardiovascular, endocrine, digestive, respiratory) affected in a yoga practice and how to use these to benefit students.

  • How to create harmonious and balanced practices by understanding the role of ayurveda, chakras, koshas, kleshas and prana vayus on our bodies/minds/emotions/spirit.

  • How to find your voice and let your personality shine through your teachings

  • Giving classes meaning through themes

  • Chanting mantras and using mudras.

Throughout the training, you will be required to maintain your yoga practice by attending at least 3 yoga classes a week (out of which one can be done online) and keeping a logging sheet signed by your teacher.

You will also have an opportunity to meet one of my beloved teachers, Sudhir Rishi who teaches philosophy, pranayama, meditation and more in a light-hearted way which makes ancient wisdom be relatable to modern life. Sudhir is someone who will put a smile on your face no matter what!

Sudhir will be meeting us on Zoom for 3 special gatherings; holding a Satsang where we will both practice and discuss what yoga encompasses.

​​Yoga Anatomy Online Course Curriculum

Each module will take you between 5 - 6 hours to complete in full.

​

How does it work?

​

You'll join Andrew at home via your computer for 24 hours of guided lesson content, reflection, personal exploration, and teaching preparation + 6 live Q & A sessions.​

​

By the time we're finished, you'll have a broad understanding of the anatomical concepts that are most important to a yoga teacher so you can begin teaching with confidence.

Module 1 - Intelligent Movement Principles:

  • Exploring the structure and function of muscle

  • Applying the knowledge of stretch reflexes to deepen our practice

  • Structure and function of bone and joints looking at what is meant by "alignment" and what limits our movement

  • How a knowledge of fascia can impact our movement on and off the mat

  • Nocebo Effect and empowering language vs fear-based language

  • Understanding muscle tightness and flexibility vs mobility

  • How anatomical language can help us to remember muscle names

  • Yoga practice to integrate the information covered

Module 2 - A Detailed Exploration of the Lower Limbs:

  • Exploration of our feet and ankles looking at their structure and function and applying this knowledge on and off the mat

  • Why our knee joints may be vulnerable to injury and how to support them

  • Detailed look at the hip joints focusing on what makes each of us so unique

  • Releasing tension in our hips

  • Exploring piriformis syndrome

  • Yoga practice to integrate the information covered

Module 3 - A Detailed Exploration of the Upper Limbs:

  • Importance of shoulder joint and girdle mobility and stability in our yoga practice

  • Evidence-based approach to shoulder impingement

  • Demystifying hyperextension of the elbow joint

  • Why wrist pain is so common in yoga and how we can alleviate this

  • How to make asanas such as Chaturanga Dandasana more accessible

  • Yoga practice to integrate the information covered

Module 4 - A Detailed Exploration of the Spine:

  • How to support our pelvis and sacroiliac joints during our asana practice

  • Evidence-based approach to back pain and prolapsed discs

  • Anatomy of our core musculature

  • Increasing the mobility of our thoracic spine

  • Supporting our cervical spine during inversions

  • Evidence-based approach to releasing neck tension

  • Yoga practice to integrate the information covered

Module 5 - Supporting Injured Students:

  • Discussing the most common injuries and conditions

  • Exploring basic guidelines for the most appropriate and effective ways to communicate with students who have an injury

  • Reviewing the anatomy of key areas of the body through the lens of injury

  • Addressing how specific asanas can be modified, adapted and supported with props depending on certain injuries

  • Exploring how to improve the health and function of each region of the body

  • Practice teaching self-study session

  • Chair yoga practice to integrate the information covered

Module 6 - The Science Behind Why Yoga Makes Us Feel So Good:

  • How yoga impacts our nervous system and relieves stress

  • Yoga as a breath-led practice, the mechanics of breathing and why breath is so important

  • Yoga for cardiovascular and lymphatic health

  • How yoga impacts the endocrine, immune and reproductive systems

  • Communicating the benefits of yoga to a student

  • How best to research a topic

  • Restorative yoga practice to integrate the information covered

 

 

 

By the end of this yoga anatomy online course you will feel inspired and empowered to teach yoga to the best of your ability.

You will have the confidence to break down any yoga asana with a clear understanding of the key actions and movements happening at each joint and know how best to work with the unique anatomy of your students.
